My current body of work explores the tension between the bittersweet memories and the uncertainty of their beginnings. This fragmentation of memory becomes less about facts of what occurred and more about the subjective experience. I use a combination of images to build collages, allowing memories to be reimagined as large-scale paintings. I manufacture a lingering sense of danger where a fabricated narrative gives form to the intangible. These aren’t precise retellings of specific events but stand-ins for these emotionally compounded recollections.

I use oil paint to layer and scrape the surface of the painting, shifting between heavy marks and soft washes. This creates depth and instability in my imagery, exploiting the distance between memory and reality. Figures dissolve into their surroundings by smudging their edges, further blurring the boundaries between past recollections and current experiences as I create these works.
